[Untitled]

So I strapped myself in
For a safe saccharine ride
Where I could keep you here with me
Still safely kept at arm’s length —
Always cautious, always with
A glance over my shoulder

We’ll go round and round
Until we get nowhere
Until you get tired of all
The arguments, those brooding silence
The sarcasm, the awkward aftermath
The yawning gap, the exhaustion

There will be regrets packed with
Punches of anger over disillusionment

There will be exasperation coupled with
Tears and endless, sleepless nights

There will be sullen one-liners
And a coldness we never saw coming

But I strapped myself in
For a safe saccharine ride
And I have always known that, eventually,
I’d have to get down or else
You’d beat me to it.
